Strange Email: What is the purpose of these kinds of Emails?

I have received couple Emails from forward senders, but these senders are my friends. For example: When I check to see who sends me the Email, I would see that the email is being forwarded to about 90 people. However, I do notice the email is forwarded to me by my friend. The Email reads:

"The President of Argentina received this letter and called it 'junk mail', 8 days later his son died.

%26gt; A man received this letter and immediately sent out copies...his surprise was winning the lottery.

%26gt; Albert o M artinez received this letter , gave it to his secretary to make copies but they forgot to distribute:

%26gt; she lost her job and he lost his family.

%26gt; This letter is miraculous and sacred, don't forget to forward this within 13 days to at least 20 people.

%26gt; Do Not Forget to forward and you will receive a huge surprise!!!”

Strange Email: What is the purpose of these kinds of Emails?
Those are chain letters, and their only purpose is to perpetuate themselves. Why they are created, I have no idea- maybe some people simply want to get attention or do something interesting (though annoying). Do NOT send chain letters! The "threats" and "rewards" listed are patently FALSE, and if you send them, a good portion of those you send them to will get annoyed because chain letters are, indeed, USELESS. Just ignore them, delete them, don't even READ them if possible.
Reply:Got a chain mail from one of my work contacts, 2 weeks ago. I e-mailed them back, stating that I wasn't interested in participating, and they promptly replied that they would make note of that. I haven't had one since. It's just crap, like the others said. I guess someone was bored.
Reply:the only place to forward those emails is the trash.
Reply:I have one like that, but I did send it and I am really curious about that too. I have been getting that a lot on my Flixster account, but I never send any of them. well, I don't think that all of them are true because I have one that says that if I don't send something, I will get bad luck. that did not come true. just ignore it because they must want to do that, so they could have a lot of friends.Maybe they want to do that for attention or something? that's all I got on this. I know that I didn't help on this, but I tried my best on your question. Good Luck!

Edit: Thank you, Nuffie. now I know what it is.

See, i'm still typing.
Reply:Ah, Dad. You've received chain mail.

Chain mail is no fun, at least - for me. There's no point. I get my hopes up of seeing a number beside my Inbox, and that number is .. Wait .. CHAIN MAIL! No!

It's extremely annoying, and like a I said, no point whatsoever.

Some people send me the, "Send this e-mail to 20 people - or your lover will die in 25 minutes." What? Whatever. Delete!

I also get them in texts, which is also very annoying.
Reply:I usually just ignore it. I'm sick of it. They call it Chain Mail.
