Strange email is it a scam?

I have received a email to my personel email box from a lady in Russia telling me she got my details of 'the agency website' the letter was on the lines of wanting to meet and marry someone from the uk, because all russian men are good for nothing, there was also a photo of the lady, her email address seemed to be a personel one.And she had my full name

I am married and have not put any details on a site, and this has caused me some grief with the wife, has anyone had a simular email,if it is a scam how does it work and how did they get my email and name?

Strange email is it a scam?
The U.S. State Department calls Russian Bride Scams 'Boris and Natasha' scams because the Natasha usually turns out to be a Boris. The scam relies on the good will lonely people, usually men, who will be too embarrassed to report the crime.

These inter-net scams are relatively simple. The criminals, either female con artists or men posing as Russian women in meet their victims through personal ads on web sites such as America Online and Match.com, supposedly seeking love. They then write e-mails and send pictures, usually of a pretty model.

Eventually a visit will be arranged; that's when the scammers ask the victim to pay for a visa and plane tickets, or ask for money or credit card numbers to pay for one thing or another. When the scammer thinks the victim is running out of money (or getting suspicious), they simply stop returning emails and move on to the next victim.

Reply:It's a scam - I got three of those this week!
Reply:Probably is a scam, i think you put your name on a website you trusted, i don't know, if i were you i would delete it and pay no mind
Reply:Delete it, if I don't recognise a name in my in box I spam the e-mail BEFORE I open it, incase of a virus...good luck, let your wife read all the answers,...
Reply:This is how you get viruses, why did you open it, if you didn't know who it was from?
Reply:Delete it.
Reply:You sure you did not have a look there, just for interest sake . Sometimes it happens that you are looking for a particular object or such and when you click on it you find it is not what you were looking for but a porn site or something, has happened to me and i am female. Appeared on my e.mails once or twice but i spammed it and thank goodness got rid of it, i am not interested in female titties.
Reply:i had one last week get rid of
Reply:I don't know from where they get the information, but sometimes is wrong. I've received them aswell and I am a woman. Tell your wife that is only scam. Good luck
Reply:yes

Reply:how do get on myspace at school
Reply:i've gotten several scams too, 1 was that i inherited big bucks from another country'''', other was an IRS one stating they would process tax rebate now, i turned 2nd in to IRS, 1st i ignored, even though i still recieve, i DELETE it.
Reply:I get about 20 a day, tell your lady she has nothing to worry about ,junk mail cons try to collect speculative information from you if you reply, just bin it and mark it as spam
Reply:That mail is from your wife..........

Just kidding!

Just delete %26amp; forget about it.
Reply:A lot of websites unfortunately sell on people's email addresses and we end up with junk mail like you have received - assure your wife that you are not doing anything untoward and that it is a scam to get money out of people
Reply:Could just be a random hit, don't reply, report it.

You hear all the time, even on here, of people getting an e-relationship going then before they know it they are being asked to send money over for flights etc and that's the last they hear of it.
Reply:It's just someone plucking a name from thin air and sending out loads of e-mails, and they just happen to land on one that is a real e-mail address, delete and ignore
Reply:Just deleted it.
Reply:yes i've had plenty of mails similar to yours , they are all scams,if you take up the offer of marring some russian, they ask for money for the air fare and then scam you.

what you should do is spam them emails from that address are barred then. i like to have a bit of fun first (scambaiting)
